In my work, I engage in the short-term revitalization of old unneeded items. I am interested in the visual side of these items – their shape, colour, and material. Then I arrange them in various compositions, creating still-lifes and placing them in different settings, thus changing not just the setting but the object as well.
The main object I chose for my graduation work was a glass fish. I was intrigued primarily by its incomplete transparency. By changing its setting, the colours of the fish are slightly changed as well. In fact, an object’s incomplete transparency rarely results in a change in colour. I tried to place the fish in a setting where it would blend in with its surroundings and become of part of them. I focused on how the colours change in the background of a painting, and how they thus gradually influence the object in the foreground.
I painted the sculpture of the fish, which we usually only know from one angle, from various positions that are natural for its living counterparts.
